VALENTINO HERD OF PEDIGREE CHAROLAIS CATTLE

Stock bull RUMSDEN UDIMORE Terminal Index 33

Introduction

Martin Gibbons formed the Valentino Herd in 2003 with purchases from Rumsden Charolais. Three in calf cows were purchased, and a young stock bull. Following the relocation of the herd to Surestead Farm near Billingshurst, Martin returned to Rumsden and purchased successful show cow Rumsden Riva with her heifer calf at foot, Rumsden Viva. And then in December 2005 Martin purchased the complete Larkmore Herd from Patrichk Larkin. The herd will aim for quality over quantity, keeping a small number of top quality cattle to produce show animals, and eventually quality bulls for sale at Society sales such as Perth and Carlisle. The cows purchased are all by different, proven sires, but the first three heifer calves, which will be retained, are all by the exceptional sire Doonally New, by Hermes. Progeny of New have achieved great successes in Ireland, Northern Ireland, and now the UK. His son Kilkullen Ted (23,000 Euros) holds the record price for a beef bull in Ireland, another son broke the sale record at Dungannon in Northern Ireland (10,800gns), and in October 2002 Louisburgh Synan by New became the highest priced commercial bull sold at Perth (16,000gns). The first stock bull at Surestead was Rumsden Tahoe, sired by Doonally Prince whose son Farleycopse Turbo topped the Perth sale in February 2004 selling for 28,000gns. Tahoe was shown in 2004, and his first calves were born in October 2004. He has now been sold on, and replaced with Rumsden Udimore, an exceptional son of Doonally New. Semen was collected in 2005, and then he was successfully shown, winning Reserve Interbreed Champion at Edenbridge, and 2nd in his class at the Royal Show.

The Valentino Herd is currently suspended due to other business commitments. Udimore, Una, Unita and Viva returned to Rumsden Farm where they were born, and Udmore has now moved to Wales as stock sire for Randall Lewis' pedigree herd. The remaining cattle had gone to Hackleton Charolais. But watch this space - we will be back!
